(Needs editing, I didn’t decide that this was going to be from the POV of the elves, probably need better justification for some things, but this might be a start… or it might not)
Nearly a millennia ago, the elven mainland settled the central region of * * for its fertility and named our nation with the express purpose of supplying much needed food and resources to the homelands via trade.
To ward off the monstrous races and human nomads across the mountains to the west, elves built a massive gate on the only mountain pass.
In the following few centuries, the limited governmental oversight and low population per square mile led to an elven sorcerer named * *’s ascension to extreme power. The elven government quickly responded by dispatching its entire army and many, many untrained mages to fight the sorcerer back, as she was powerful enough (even passively) to manifest strange and terrifying elemental and temporal effects. As her power grew and it became clear that no one could do anything to stop her insatiable lust for power, it became too much for her to contain. The elemental energies she possessed flooded out in one large blast, obliterating her and the small island colony she had been living near, leaving a supermassive storm in its place. The storm has continued in the centuries since with no sign of ceasing, though the ambient magical energy in areas near the storm has led to the founding of a prestigious magical college and stronghold for mages of all schools to hone their craft, with a visceral reminder of what can happen if their pursuit for knowledge goes too far.
In the aftermath of the calamity, the elven government created a monitoring agency called * * to supervise latent magical energy in sorcerer bloodlines to ensure that such an event never happens again.
Recently (in the eyes of elvenkind), the human nomads have settled the western third of the content, culling the native monster races and pushing those that remained to the north. The newfound human kingdom has, in sharp contrast to any of the world’s elven kingdoms, grown known worldwide as a refuge to many, regardless of your background or heritage, and their culture has quickly evolved to incorporate those of its citizens.
The last two hundred years have been relatively peaceful, as the two civilizations grew together but apart, separated by a mountain range and a formidable elven gate that never seems to open. The only notable event was an attempted invasion by the monstrous races to the north as they attempted to survive a particularly harsh winter by raiding nearby elven towns. The raiders were quickly fought back, with some small help from our neighbors from the west, the nation of Qilaw as they were now calling themselves.

As thanks, we opened our borders to the new nation as a means of improving trade.
Unfortunately, many of our citizens betrayed their bloodline by mating with the humans, and were similarly expelled. To prevent future issues of the same like, we severed the trade agreement with Qilaw and moved our borders further east before constructing another gate to contain the problem.
This has been largely successful, as the peoples between the gates have begun acting as an intermediary between our proud nation and Qilaw, benefitting the three of our civilizations and reducing the risk of further contamination.
It has yet to be seen if this solution will work in the long term.
