Session Points

  • Checking on the Torch
  • Checking in on Strix's farmhouse / her parents[!]
  • Heading back to Cenorias
  • Almost universal acclaim (they're carting a Huge dragon carcass/skin)

Don't forget that Jade Regulus and Skystormer are with them!

  • no she isn't, they sent her ahead to the refugees

Tucker Mine

As they're leaving, [Kysj-Sjerit] (the priest of Kosj-Sjerit-Valignat-Vorel) stumbles out of the confessional, along with a few other wide-eyed kobolds. They seem ready to bolt until Kysj recognizes the players

  • They can describe that "a big, scarred, black-furred man" (Lucien Vanko) came here with a bunch of men (including "a big, bald brown-bearded man" Jelric Somir, the leader of The Order of the Blade) (this dude dead)

Kaledorei

People have come out of the woodwork to clean up. Some heard the cry of the dragon as it died, some were even close enough to see it as it fell out of the sky

  • need to have some amazed NPCs ready for this
The dragon's tail has been sliced off by some unknown entity
  • it's a clean slice
  • there are wagon tracks leading out of town to the southeast (do we actually want to include this?)
  • the Torch isn't here, but some recognizable faces are:
    • various shopkeepers, including the wiry armorsmith from Session 9 - Revenge (he hid in the forge while the dragon was attacking)
    • a few Fireflies, including Krea
    • several guards and former guards helping citizens out of collapsed buildings, and recovering bodies

The Tuner!

Don't forget to describe [how it appears to have exploded!]

You notice that a normally-prominent item in the town square appears to have disappeared, replaced by a two-foot deep crater. The earth appears to have been blown back from where it stood, and you can see several flagstones from the nearby road that have been thrown into nearby buildings, seemingly the cause of their collapse

(of course, the Tuner exploded from having to absorb all the magic from the dragonfire)
No trace of the quartz stone remains, as far as you can see
(if they [Detect Magic], they can see the mass of abjuration magics slowly diffusing out from around the thing, with a denser pillar of evocation magic inside)

The Sapphire Torch

They gone, Tuner isn't though
Curiously the immediate area around their hideout appears to have not just avoided the dragonfire, but (similar to the area around Nathaniel's home) the area appears to have been completely unaffected

  • What's inside the hideout?
  • Consumed (one time use) Teleportation Circle, the magic appears to have left a burnt imprint on the stones beneath
  • Opened safe in an area they hadn't been in the hideout (not a big safe, like 3sqft)
    • What was inside[?]
    • Its empty, but its really only big enough for documents, or something else small

Strix's Farmhouse

The Nebulosa farmhouse is a wide and shallow one story building with white plaster walls, timber supports, and thatched roof. Outside there is a dilapidated and disused barn, and an outhouse. There is a water pump at the front of the building, a light wagon parked along the side, and a vegetable garden out back. Inside is one room, with a hearth, a double bed, a wooden bathtub, a bookshelf, small dining table, and plenty of storage. There is a window on each side wall, and lots of decorations of various bird feathers and pressed flowers.

The farmhouse appears to have been blown over by some otherworldly wind. Its shingles have almost all been ripped off, and the building itself is only barely still attached to its foundation, stopping just short of being unrooted and flung like the outhouse. What remains of the barn is barely usable as construction material.
Out back, the garden, previously in need of a good rain, has been pressed flat against the ground. An array of different bird feathers litter the ground on the property.

Strix's Family / Peywood

Parents are alive

Strix was born to her parents Imblen and Foucher Greyfeather in the town of Peywood, not far from Kaledorei. Her mother worked as a seamstress, and though her father was not a full blown alcoholic, he was quite fond of drinking, and never held onto a job for long, causing the family to be quite poor. Strix’s only sibling was a younger sister named Cedany, and her mother taught them both how to read and to sew. Every night she would read to them from the few books they had, stories of heroes and adventurers saving the kingdom from forces of evil.

Not that it probably matters but Cedany is married now
I'm going with she also lives in Peywood, though kinda on the opposite side of town from wherever Foucher and Imblen live

  • Meet the parents?
    • Imblen (IM-blen) and Foucher (FOUCH-er) Greyfeather
    • Mother seamstress, father "not a full blown alcoholic, never held onto a job for long"
    • Younger sister named Cedany
      • Married to Brom, child Aldous
    • Artyom's parents: Jovis (YO-vis) and Metis (ME-tis) Nebulosa (merchants selling farm equipment)
  • [What do they know about the dragon] / Kaledorei?
    • They had seen it land in Kaledorei and heard it from where they were
    • Much of the town was already in the process of evacuating - there are a few satchels packed with keepsakes laying on the floor near the kitchen table, seemingly in a state between packing and unpacking
  • How do they act?
    • Mother supportive (quiet and timid), asks if she's been eating enough
      • "You should come by more often! How have you been? Are you still uh.. looking for work? And who's this young man you've brought home?"
      • "You should stay the night! Your father and I could find somewhere else to sleep, and I'm making a stew tonight, with beef, even!"
    • Father (gruff, sad, aloof) nursing a drink (barleywine)
      • He'd just recently found a job as a farmhand, mixed spirits

Cenorias

Nothing is stupid enough to attack them on the way back (they're carrying a dragon)
Need to setup a meeting with The King's Court to setup for Future Shit!

  • Strix's farm is misplaced on the map, it should be at the corner of the field west of Kaledorei
  • Resolve solo RP with Strix & parents later - S25 Strix + Parents RP
  • Meeting point with Jade in the gardens outside the Silver Spire
  • Strix is self-medicating now
  • they identified the Razarac, the Weed-o-mancer sword - and dispelled it
    • they left him with the cleric

Plot Planning!

The Scarlet Circle is a proxy for Arconia, we know that, and The Sapphire Torch is a proxy for Qilaw, we also know that
As far as the advisors:

  • Fulvia (diplomatic) is working for a different branch of Arconia to some degree, now that she and Nathaniel Fawkesmoore have talked his deal over (what are the real conditions of his deal?)
  • Midas (trade) is really just out to make money (war makes good money)
  • Brutus (military) is mostly fine (make him seem more sus though - he's very paranoid, and for a good enough reason), he's looking out for his daughter (let them believe that she's Jade, but never actually imply it), and probably wants to build up a nest egg for her, or even a way out from the capital when it inevitably falls
  • Judas (religious) is working with The Sapphire Torch, they're working to get him into the position of leadership for Tarawn by assassinating Rodfyr Regulus

Over the past few sessions, The Sapphire Torch has learned the thing about the Scarlet Circle (or maybe they've always known, and not let it on?). They're also about to learn that the Tuners are more like volatile batteries than tuning forks, and plan to use one in their Assassination Plan.

  • They will be letting the players in on that information about the Circle at the next relevant time, now that the Circle has done something pretty high profile
    • How do they even phrase what the Torch is doing here?
    • They may also imply that one or two (probably not three, otherwise PCs could be suspicious of the 4th) of the advisors (Fulvia and Midas probably) are in on this
  • This should (could?) re-align Strix's (vs the Circle) Nilkas' (vs Arconia) and the Torch's goals, meaning they could start to dismantle the Circle and some of the advisors politically (or in some other way)
    • This is going to change a lot of the theme of the campaign, we really need to think about how political things are going to get
  • Once the PCs finally meet up with some of the Circle (without Torch present), the Circle might let them in on the fact that the Torch is looking to do a similar thing for Qilaw by fully overthrowing the government (they may also just not know)
  • Really for any of this to work, the PCs have to have met the The King's Court first, so that might happen in Session 26 and be setup in this session, which would let the information dump that the Circle is much bigger than they seem be dropped at the end of S26, right before the cruise for a nice cliffhanger
