Session Points

Players have indicated that they are looking to go for the noble or for the kobolds. We don't really have any plans for either, but the noble is easier to make up on the spot, so we're planning for kobolds for now

  • PCs are back in Kaledorei, anything they want to do here first?
  • The parade is going on as they return, anything interesting happening there? Who is taking part?
  • Talking to Sapphire Torch probably. Astrid is taking things hard
  • Then off to find the treasure (and the wizard?)

Kaledorei

You're coming back from the east, and can hear sounds of music and the occasional cheer as you approach the east gate. Calder shoots a questioning look at Freyja, and she shrugs
"Must be the parade we're supposed to be having"
Spirits among the Torch aren't very high - Freyja is more somber than her normal self and Astrid hasn't said more than a few words the whole way back. Calder doesn't seem exactly sad, but he's got enough sense to not bring it up in present company.

The Parade

You're not sure what you were expecting to see inside the walls, but whatever it was, you're underwhelmed. Guards are milling around in what would appear to be dress uniforms - less plate than normal and more colored cloth. Some of the metal on their uniforms shines as if it were washed with... varying levels of success.
Several citizens are gathered around the city's square - far fewer than the several hundred you know to populate the town. Many of the people in attendance are dressed in finer clothing than the guards themselves, people who no doubt hail from the northern district of Kaledorei.
Few commoners are present, and they look clearly out of place.
A few bards have set up in the middle of the square and are warming up, playing a mishmash of loosely familiar tunes on their lutes, flutes, and drum.
Local vendors have also setup around the borders of the square, hawking wares - mostly food and drink, both of the alcoholic and non-alcoholic variety.

[Once set up], the band begins to play spirited music, and the guards present assemble into formation, raising colored flags representing Kaledorei and Nathaniel Fawkesmoore's personal crest and marching around the town square. Many of the finer folks in attendance clap and cheer for the guards.

[Out of the crowd], a man dressed in nothing more than rags jeers at the passing guards, cursing them out:

"Fakes! Liars! My brother died protecting this town, and none of you bastards were there! How can you be standing here taking credit when you're not even worth the dogshite we came from?"

One of the guards then smacks the man with the flat of his blade, knocking him forcefully into the people standing next to him before falling motionless to the ground. None of the people nearby appear to react to what just happened, continuing to cheer for the guards.

Notable Meetups

Later, or at some point, there are a few NPCs the group can run into:
Ander Goldtongue

He's clearly intoxicated and trying to feel up some woman, somewhat unsuccessfully.

This may have something to do with the fact that he reeks badly enough of alcohol that you can smell him from here, or the fact that he's boasting loudly about his last sexual exploits. Or both. Probably both.
Nils, when he sees you, he breaks out into a grin and shambles over, throwing an arm over your shoulder

"Nilkas, my boy! Come for a *hic* refresher on how the pros do it? Or maybe you're looking to put those skills into practice?"

"Why, just the other day, it feels like, I was in this town south of here and landed [a fellow that looked just like me]. Might actually have been me - I don't remember..." [hint at mimic town]
"Of course not! But when you're in the presence of someone that looks as good as I do, one's bound to be a little curious!"

Sylvia & Clerebold

You spy two familiar-looking children wading through the legs of the crowd, bumping into one person or another in an almost-convincing attempt to pickpocket them. When he sees the pair of you, the younger boy goes ghost-white and freezes in place, his hand still in the purse of an older lady who doesn't appear to have noticed anything yet. [if the PCs fail to react], the woman notices and calls the nearby guards - the kids have to disappear into the crowd.

[their home life has gotten rougher], mom's struggling to feed them more, and they've had to help out more by bringing back trinkets.
[Clerebold has some bruises], he doesn't really want to talk about it, but he's been getting hit by the head of the Reavers - possible name ["The Coin Collector"], real name [unknown]

"Emerald Redstone"
She's in the Organizations/Wayfarer's Inn with a few sketchy seeming folks, dressed in a similar fashion as when the players first met her, but with a little less armor.

Above the hum of activity in the Organizations/Wayfarer's Inn, you hear a frustrated grunt in a voice you recognize. Looking over to the bar counter, you can make out the dark green cape draped over a redheaded woman's shoulders. She is currently facing away from you and saying something to a woman and a man sitting next to her.

She's accidentally gambled away a key to something important [the armory in Cenorias], and really needs it back. Downside, she's out of money due to the whole gambling thing. Can the party retrieve it? Preferably avoiding beating the piss out of the winner, though a 'light piss-beating' would be less bad.
Her gambling partners are named [Marcus Sandstone] (half-elf, winner) and [Samantha Delgado] (human), and they know her as [Emerald Rockwell].

The Sapphire Torch

Astrid
Once back from the expedition:

Astrid looks more 'out of it' than usual, and her breath smells a little of alcohol. When she sees the two of you, she tries to compose herself and smiles emptily.

She frequently deals with death, but has never been on the front lines actually dealing it before, and is having some regrets.

Freyja
Somber, but realistic. She knows that the orcs would have caused more problems had they remained around, but doesn't like having to kill in order to prevent that from happening. She's killed before, and probably will again, but it doesn't leave a good taste in her mouth.

Calder
Calder was happy to deal with the orcs. He was born under Sargulg Pruushnak, and has no fond feelings of Shamar. Its good that the clan split, and good that one of them is practically gone now and won't be coming back anytime soon.

Bo

[magical WalMart before heading out?]

About the Mine

Various townsfolk know about a mining expedition that targeted the mountains to the north after hearing that precious minerals could be mined there and traded. None of them know about the status of the mines though, they haven't heard anything from that area for a while.
